HOW THE ADDRESS SYSTEM WORKS

In general, addresses run west to east, and south to north from the Southwest corner of Limestone County, increasing in a northward and eastward fashion.

Note:This system applies to all areas of Limestone County including all municipalities, except for portions of the City of Athens and portions of Limestone County annexed into the City of Madison.

DISTANCED BASED ADDRESSING

  • An address exists every 5.28 feet.

  • 100 addresses equals one-tenth (1/10) of a mile (528 feet)

  • 1000 addresses equals one (1) mile (5,280 feet)

EVEN/ODD ADDRESSING

As addresses increase (i.e. 33100-33600), even numbered addresses are on the right side of the roadway while odd numbered addresses are on the left.

As addresses decrease (i.e. 36000-31000), even numbered addresses are on the left side of the roadway while odd numbered addresses are on the right.

ADVANTAGES OF USING DISTANCE BASED ADDRESSING

  • Provides emergency responders an efficient and systematic manner of locating structures.

  • Addresses are permanent, even if the road is extended or renamed.

  • Allows for future expansion such as multiple dwellings on a single lot, development of subdivisions, or the addition of new roads.

Note:In order for us to address a structure we require there to be stakes up marking where the 4 corners of the structure will be.
